ACER COE – Postdoctoral Researcher in Membrane and Electrode Technologies for Battery and Fuel-Cell System

About UM6P:

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is an internationally oriented institution of higher learning, that is committed to an educational system based on the highest standards of teaching and research in fields related to the sustainable economic development of Morocco and Africa. UM6P is an institution oriented towards applied research and innovation. On a specific focus on Africa, UM6P aims to position these fields as the forefront and become a university of international standing.

More than just a traditional academic institution, UM6P is a platform for experimentation and a pool of opportunities, for students, professors and staff. It offers a high-quality living and study environment thanks to its state-of-the-art infrastructure. With an innovative approach, UM6P places research and innovation at the heart of its educational project as a driving force of a business model.

In its research approach, the UM6P promotes transdisciplinary, entrepreneurship spirit and collaboration with external institutions for developing up to date science and at continent level in order to address real challenges.

All our programs run as start-ups and can be self-organized when they reach a critical mass. Thus, academic liberty is promoted as far as funding is developed by research teams.

The research programs are integrated from long-term research to short-term applications in linkage with incubation and start-up ecosystems.

About ACER CoE:

The Centre was established to address enduring process challenges in Chemistry and Engineering disciplines and create an environment for interdisciplinary research. The research program of ACER CoE is multidisciplinary, with faculty members from backgrounds in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering focusing on different research fields such as catalysis, separation, energy generation, conversion and storage, and organic optoelectronics intelligent and advanced polymers and materials.

Job Description:

A postdoctoral position is currently available in the field of Membrane and Electrode Technologies for Battery and Fuel-Cell Systems. The aim of this position is to advance scientific research and development of high-performance specific membranes for different applications (Catalytic materials and electrodes for fuel cell applications; Polymer electrolyte for Lithium-ion Batteries). The main objective of this position is to develop and synthesize suitable membranes, optimize their integration and shaping into functional electrodes or electrolyte, and finally evaluate their performance through fuel cell and battery testing.

The candidate will be involved in:

  • Conducting original scientific research in the field of Membranes, Polymers for Batteries and fuel cells.
  • Characterizing the developed membranes using appropriate physicochemical, structural, morphological, and electrochemical techniques.
  • Investigating the integration of polymer electrolyte membranes with catalytic electrodes to develop and optimize membrane–electrode assemblies.
  • Designing Polymer Electrolye for safe batteries,
  • Performing electrochemical and fuel cell performance tests under controlled operating conditions.
  • Analyzing experimental results and preparing characterization and performance reports.
  • Drafting scientific publications and patents.

Position Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Energy Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
  • Strong background in battery systems, fuel-cell technologies, hydrogen technologies, or electrochemical energy conversion.
  • Demonstrated experience in membrane synthesis, processing, and characterization.
  • Knowledge of electrode fabrication, catalyst deposition, and electrode-forming techniques.
  • Proficiency in physicochemical and electrochemical characterization methods.
  • Experience in fuel-cell and battery testing, electrochemical measurements, and hydrogen-consumption analysis would be a significant advantage.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret experimental data and establish correlations among material properties, electrode characteristics, and electrochemical performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.Applications must be submitted online;

Criteria of the candidate:

  • PhD in the subject discipline.
  • Prove ability to perform multidisciplinary research and contribute to funded research programs.
  • Good English communication skills, both verbal and written are important.

Application and Selection

The application folder must contain (in one file):

  • Detailed CV.
  • Cover letter along with a synthetic presentation of the background, research works, projects and activities, publications, key achievements.
  • Contact information of 3 referees.
