About CCSE:
The College of Chemical Sciences & Engineering (CCSE) brings together the education and the research activity of UM6P in chemistry, materials science and process engineering. Its School of Chemical Sciences & Engineering (SCSE) hosts the Integrated Preparatory Cycle, the Engineering Cycle (GUP+) and a Bachelor in Chemical & Materials Engineering. Student enrolment is projected to grow from approximately 280 students in 2026-2027 to more than 500 by 2029-2030, across the Integrated Preparatory Cycle, the Engineering Cycle and the Bachelor.
The College is building a faculty whose first mission is teaching, and whose research is carried out within its eight R&D entities (CBS, HTMR, ACER, ARC-Air, LIMSET, SUSMAT, IST&I and MSN). The successful candidate will be affiliated to one of these entities, determined at the time of appointment according to their background and to the priorities of the College. The position is therefore defined at the level of the College and of its academic programs, and not at the level of a single research theme: the teaching assignment described below applies whichever entity of affiliation is retained.
TEACHING ACTIVITIES
- Teach and coordinate the general microbiology, biochemistry and industrial microbiology modules, including laboratory sessions
- Teach and coordinate the bioprocess modules of the Engineering Cycle: bioreactors, fermentation, downstream processing and environmental biotechnology
- Set up and supervise the associated laboratory teaching activity, including biosafety, hygiene and quality procedures, and contribute to the opening of the biotechnology specialisation track
- The annual teaching load is a minimum of 100 hours, and is expected to reach 150 hours for this teaching-focused position, distributed across the Integrated Preparatory Cycle, the Engineering Cycle, the Bachelor programs, the Doctoral Training Center and Executive Education
- Supervise student projects, laboratory work, internships and end-of-study projects, and provide academic advising on course selection, orientation and career development
- Develop teaching material, laboratory experiments and assessment methods, and contribute to the pedagogical committees, examination boards and accreditation files of the programs
RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
- Contribute to the research activity of the R&D entity of affiliation, at a level compatible with a teaching-focused assignment. The research programme is defined with that entity; no specific research theme is imposed by the present position, beyond its relevance to bioprocesses and industrial biotechnology.
- Co-supervise student projects, internships and, where relevant, master's or doctoral candidates
- Contribute to the collaborative, funded or industrial projects of the entity of affiliation
- Publish and disseminate the results of this activity
ACADEMIC AND INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS
- Establish collaborations with faculty members of the College and of the other UM6P entities in order to build and share teaching resources, laboratories and project topics
- Engage with industry partners to source real-world case studies, design project topics and student internships
- Contribute to the outreach activity of the College: open days, orientation, secondary-school and alumni relations
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering or a closely related field
- Command of microbiology and bioprocess engineering, with the ability to teach both the fundamentals and their industrial application
- Experience of laboratory teaching and of the design of practical sessions
- Experience of teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in the field concerned, in both French and English; teaching assistant or instructor roles are acceptable
- A commitment to pedagogical innovation and the ability to mentor and engage students in active learning environments
- Minimum research and development profile: ability to sustain an applied research activity within the entity of affiliation and to contribute to its collaborative or industrial projects
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience of industrial fermentation or downstream processing
- Experience of setting up a teaching laboratory
- Experience of project-based, problem-based or challenge-based teaching, and of the supervision of design projects
- Experience of teaching in a newly created program, and of the design of syllabi and assessment schemes
- Strong communication skills, and the ability to work within a teaching team
APPLICATION
The application folder must contain a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a teaching statement including experience of active learning methods, a list of publications if any, and the contact details of three external referees who are not current UM6P faculty.
