Description du poste

About UM6P:

Located in the Green City of Benguerir, Morocco, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is an internationally oriented institution focused on research, innovation, education, and sustainable development in Morocco and Africa. With state-of-the-art infrastructure and a growing international research network, UM6P provides a dynamic environment for high-impact, interdisciplinary research and the development of solutions to regional and global challenges.

About ARC_AIR – African Research Center on Air Quality and Climate:

The African Research Center on Air Quality and Climate (ARC_AIR) is a research unit within UM6P dedicated to advancing scientific understanding and innovative solutions in the fields of air quality, atmospheric chemistry, and climate. ARC_AIR’s mission is to support sustainable development in Africa through high-impact research, capacity building, and technology transfer. The center brings together a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and students working on addressing environmental challenges such as industrial emissions, urban pollution, and climate change impacts. ARC_AIR also collaborates closely with national and international partners to strengthen Africa’s contribution to global atmospheric science and to develop tools and strategies that guide evidence-based policymaking.

Research:

The successful candidate will conduct research within the UM6P African Research Centre on Air Quality and Climate, working with faculty, students, postdoctoral researchers, and international collaborators. The candidate will develop an independent research programme focused on tropospheric chemistry, atmospheric composition, air quality, and climate, combining laboratory measurements, in-situ observations, remote sensing, and atmospheric modelling. Research may address the formation, transformation, transport, fate, and mitigation of atmospheric pollutants, including the development of chemical or physicochemical approaches for pollutant transformation, recovery, and sustainable environmental management. The candidate will contribute to field campaigns and the deployment and operation of atmospheric instrumentation, as well as the integration and interpretation of multi-instrument and modelling datasets.

Candidate Profile:

We seek an atmospheric chemist or related environmental scientist with a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Chemistry, Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Atmospheric Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

The candidate should demonstrate:

  • Strong expertise in atmospheric chemistry, air quality, or atmospheric processes.
  • Experience with laboratory measurements, in-situ observations, remote sensing, and/or atmospheric modelling.
  • Experience in data processing and integration of multi-instrument datasets.
  • Knowledge of pollutant formation, transformation, transport, and fate.
  • Experience in pollutant transformation, mitigation, recovery, or sustainable environmental solutions.
  • A strong record of scientific publications and international collaboration.
  • Experience in developing and securing competitive research funding, demonstrated through successful projects as project coordinator or equivalent.
  • Experience in supervising students and early-career researchers.
  • Strong project-management, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Interest in addressing air-quality and atmospheric chemistry challenges in Africa and the Mediterranean region.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and lead research on tropospheric chemistry, air quality, and atmospheric composition.
  • Conduct and coordinate laboratory, field, remote-sensing, and modelling activities.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate atmospheric measurement systems and ensure high-quality data.
  • Develop approaches for pollutant characterization, transformation, mitigation, and sustainable management.
  • Integrate and analyse synergistic atmospheric datasets.
  • Develop and lead national and international research projects and attract external funding to UM6P.
  • Establish collaborations with academic, industrial, governmental, and international partners.
  • Supervise Master's and Ph.D. students and contribute to research-led teaching.
