About UM6P:
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is an internationally oriented institution of higher learning, that is committed to an educational system based on the highest standards of teaching and research in fields related to the sustainable economic development of Morocco and Africa. UM6P is an institution oriented towards applied research and innovation. On a specific focus on Africa, UM6P aims to position these fields as the forefront and become a university of international standing.
More than just a traditional academic institution, UM6P is a platform for experimentation and a pool of opportunities, for students, professors and staff. It offers a high-quality living and study environment thanks to its state-of-the-art infrastructure. With an innovative approach, UM6P places research and innovation at the heart of its educational project as a driving force of a business model.
In its research approach, the UM6P promotes transdisciplinary, entrepreneurship spirit and collaboration with external institutions for developing up to date science and at continent level in order to address real challenges.
All our programs run as start-ups and can be self-organized when they reach a critical mass. Thus, academic liberty is promoted as far as funding is developed by research teams.
The research programs are integrated from long-term research to short-term applications in linkage with incubation and start-up ecosystems.
About COLCOM:
UM6P’s College of Computing's mission is to harness advances of the computing age, by transforming the capabilities of academia in all key areas; computing fields – supporting the rapid growth and evolution of computer science and computational areas of allied fields such as mathematics, as reflected notably in the rise of artificial intelligence; computing in other disciplines – facilitating research and teaching collaborations in computing, across a broad range of fields; social and ethical responsibilities of computing – leading change in academic research and education, in the development and use of computing. - home to the largest and fastest HPC infrastructure in Africa named “TOUBKAL”.
Job Description:
The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to research activities in communication-aware robotics, with a particular focus on autonomous and networked robotic systems, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The research will explore the joint design of communication, sensing, control, and decision-making mechanisms to enable efficient, reliable, and intelligent robotic operations in dynamic and uncertain environments. Depending on the candidate’s expertise, the work may involve wireless communications, multi-robot coordination, trajectory planning, artificial intelligence, optimization, and the experimental validation of communication-aware robotic systems.
Position Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Control Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: autonomous systems, networked robotics, wireless communications, multi-robot systems, UAVs, trajectory planning, or intelligent control.
- Strong understanding of the interactions between communication, sensing, control, and decision-making in autonomous robotic systems.
- Experience in developing algorithms for robot navigation, path and trajectory planning, resource allocation, coordination, or distributed decision-making.
- Knowledge of wireless communication systems, communication-aware control, network optimization, or joint communication and sensing is highly desirable.
- Experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, reinforcement learning, or optimization techniques applied to autonomous systems is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in relevant programming and simulation tools, such as Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, ROS/ROS 2, Gazebo, AirSim, or equivalent platforms.
- Experience in the experimental implementation and validation of robotic systems, particularly UAVs or multi-robot platforms, is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary and international research teams.
- Excellent scientific writing and communication skills, supported by a strong publication record in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences.
- Experience in supervising graduate students and contributing to research proposal development is an advantage.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of French is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational skills, initiative, and a commitment to innovation, scientific excellence, and technology transfer.
Candidate Profile:
Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, preferably with experience as a postdoctoral researcher.
Proven ability to conduct multidisciplinary research and contribute to funded research programs.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and experimental research skills.
Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
