About CCSE:

The College of Chemical Sciences & Engineering (CCSE) brings together the education and the research activity of UM6P in chemistry, materials science and process engineering. Its School of Chemical Sciences & Engineering (SCSE) hosts the Integrated Preparatory Cycle, the Engineering Cycle (GUP+) and a Bachelor in Chemical & Materials Engineering. Student enrolment is projected to grow from approximately 280 students in 2026-2027 to more than 500 by 2029-2030, across the Integrated Preparatory Cycle, the Engineering Cycle and the Bachelor.

The College is building a faculty whose first mission is teaching, and whose research is carried out within its eight R&D entities (CBS, HTMR, ACER, ARC-Air, LIMSET, SUSMAT, IST&I and MSN). The successful candidate will be affiliated to one of these entities, determined at the time of appointment according to their background and to the priorities of the College. The position is therefore defined at the level of the College and of its academic programs, and not at the level of a single research theme: the teaching assignment described below applies whichever entity of affiliation is retained.

TEACHING ACTIVITIES

• Deliver the chemistry teaching of the Integrated Preparatory Cycle: general chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry and crystal chemistry, with the associated laboratory sessions
• Set up, run and maintain the chemistry and chemical engineering teaching laboratories, including protocols, quality and safety procedures
• Supervise the experimental component of the integrative and design projects of the preparatory and engineering cycles
• Design and deliver the modules concerned using active learning methods - BBL, project-based learning (PjBL) and challenge-based learning (CBL) - and lead design projects from problem framing to final defence
• Annual teaching service capped at 200 hours, devoted entirely to teaching and to the direct support of students: lectures, tutorials, laboratory and computer sessions, project supervision, remedial teaching and tutoring
• Prepare, invigilate and mark examinations and continuous assessment, and contribute to the pedagogical committees and examination boards of the programs
• Produce and maintain teaching material - problem sets, case studies, laboratory protocols, project briefs and assessment rubrics - and share it within the teaching team

ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT

• The Affiliate Professor is a full-time teaching position attached to the School of Chemical Sciences & Engineering, with an annual teaching service capped at 200 hours. The whole of the service is devoted to teaching and to the direct support of students; no research assignment and no research objective are attached to the position.
• Research is optional. A holder who wishes to do so may be associated with one of the eight R&D entities of the College (CBS, HTMR, ACER, ARC-Air, LIMSET, SUSMAT, IST&I and MSN) and take part in its activity on a voluntary basis, in agreement with the entity concerned, without reduction of the teaching service and without effect on the evaluation of the position.
• The Affiliate Professor contributes to the pedagogical engineering of the School: deployment of active learning formats across the programs, mentoring of adjunct lecturers, and support to the Track Coordinators
• The position is designed as a bridge to a permanent teaching-focused faculty position of the College, and provides the holder with a structured teaching portfolio

ACADEMIC AND INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS

• Establish collaborations with faculty members of the College and of the other UM6P entities in order to build and share teaching resources, laboratories and project topics
• Engage with industry partners to source real-world case studies, design project topics and student internships
• Contribute to the outreach activity of the College: open days, orientation, secondary-school and alumni relations

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Doctorate or Master's degree in chemistry or chemical engineering, with substantial teaching experience
• Experience of setting up and running laboratory teaching, including safety and quality procedures
• Demonstrated experience of active learning pedagogies: BBL, project-based learning (PjBL), challenge-based learning (CBL), and supervision of design projects
• Ability to design a module from learning outcomes to assessment, and to document it
• Teaching in French; English is required for the Bachelor programs
• Availability over the whole academic year, including assessment periods and examination boards

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Formal training in pedagogy or educational engineering, or a teaching certification
• Experience of teaching in a newly created program and of writing syllabi and accreditation material
• Industrial experience providing real-world case studies and design project topics
